Major achievements in recent years (3 years):
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) is responsible for providing reliable and up-to-date data for development planning and administrative activities of the country. Regular collection of various data for use by planners engaged in national and local planning, public and private research institutes, international organizations and the public;
BBS has been carrying out the responsibility of compilation and publication. Recently National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and Statistics Act 2013 have been formulated. As a result the scope of work of BBS has been expanded. In view of this, the organizational structure of BBS has been redefined and work is underway to strengthen and rationalize it. Under Section 6 of the Statistics Act, 2013, various censuses and surveys in socio-economic and demographic fields
And it is being strengthened and rationalized. Under Section 6 of the Statistics Act 2013, surveys have been completed in various census and socio-economic and demographic areas. On 15-19 March 2011, the country's fifth census and household census was conducted. This is the first time that iCADE Software has been used and the 2011 census data has been processed on the ICR machine. By using digital method it is possible to give accurate results of census at the fastest time.
Under this project, Redatam software and primary data of census 2011 have been uploaded on the website of BBS through which users can prepare tables, graphs, charts etc. as per their needs. Apart from this project, ICT training has been arranged at the departmental level and furniture and various equipments have been provided to the field offices.
In March-May 2013, the third economic census data collection program was completed in Bangladesh. Economic census data is computerized at BBS headquarters in the shortest possible time using modern technology of the government established at the local level for the first time through the Union Information and Services Center (UISC) using high-powered software.
Economic Census 2013 has conducted the 'Expatriate Income Investment Survey 2016'. Through this survey, information has been collected about various sectors of investment of expatriate income, as well as information on various sectors of savings, information about expatriates and socio-economic status of households, which will play a significant role in making proper plans and recommendations for proper investment of expatriate income.
Moreover, preparations for the Integrated Agricultural Census 2018, including fisheries and livestock sectors, are underway. Final Report of Slum Census and Floating Census 2014 Program released. 126 crop volume and production estimates have been made on a regular basis on an annual basis. Land and Irrigation Statistics prepared. Yearbook of Agricultural Statistics 2014 has been published.
A total of 66 reports will be published under the census, of which 01 National Report has been published, 01 Administrative Report and 64 Zila Reports will be published soon. Under the Economic Census 2013 project, the Business Register has taken up the preparation activities. It will be used as the main framework for preparing the country's economic statistics. The Business Register will contain information on each establishment's name, address, legal structure, type of operations, number of manpower employed, average annual production, total assets, etc.
Vital Statistics of Bangladesh is published regularly based on the collection of data through 11 types of schedules from 2,012 sample areas selected across the country under the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project. The publication of the report of the Program on the Impact of Climate Change on Public Life is in its final stages
The Geo Code System is in progress to introduce a streamlined and uniform coding system for all geographical areas of the country. Bangladesh Standard Classification of Occupation (BSCO-6 digit) and Bangladesh Standard Industrial Classification (BSIC-5 digit) are in progress. Also, BBS regular activities such as: Consumer Price Index (CPI) of every month is published in the first week of the following month.
Final GDP for 2014-15 and Provisional GDP for 2015-16 released. The base year of Quantum Index of Industrial Production has been changed from 1989-90 to 2005-06. Reports of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2013, Survey of Manufacturing Industries 2012,
List of Opted person has been prepared in Indian enclaves located in Bangladesh and Bangladeshi enclaves located in India. Besides, regular publications of BBSA such as Statistical Pocket Book, Statistical Year Book and Monthly Statistical Bulletin are published regularly.

Compilation of Gender Statistics 2012, Child and Mother Nutrition Survey 2012, Health and Morbidity Status Survey 2012 have been published. The publication of the report of Violence Against Women (VAW) Survey-2015 is in its final stage.
Food Balance Sheet (2009-13) has been prepared for the first time. 'Bangladesh National Accounts Statistics: Sources and Methods' containing details of GDP Rebasing for the base year 2005-06 has been published. In the base year 2005-06, work on GDP estimation is in progress from 1972-73 to 1994-95 in the production system.
